Monday, January 3rd, 2022

woman-looking-scaredAlthough our evenings have gotten quite chilly over the past couple of weeks, it’s been a sort of nice relief from the weather we’ve been experiencing, right? We’re used to needing our air conditioners on an hour-by-hour basis, and paying a lot for the energy necessary to make cooling our homes possible.

Soon enough, it will be time to turn our attention away from our cooling systems and toward our heaters instead. If you have a heat pump, this means making sure it’s properly maintained for the season (it’s not too late to schedule heating maintenance this year, if you haven’t done so already!), and then switching it from cooling mode to heating mode.

Wait, what’s that? You just tried to do that and it’s still sending out cooled air through the vents? Yikes!

Okay, first off, this might not be as big of a deal as you think–we’ll cover some troubleshooting tips below. It may require professional repairs, and we’ll talk about that more below as well. Read on to learn what’s happening when your heat pump won’t switch to heating mode.

animated-checklist-gifIf you’ve lived in the St Augustine area for even just a year, then you know that our “winter” season is almost laughable to our friends up north in New England and the New York area. Still though, this is even more reason for us to want to spend as little as possible on our heating systems. One way to ensure this is the case is to invest in routine annual maintenance. This all means lower heating bills for you!

Maintenance can help you avoid up to 85% of the repairs you might ever need in your heater’s lifespan, by enabling us to catch small wear and tear problems before they grow into bigger repair emergencies. Of course, this doesn’t mean you’ll never have a repair need in between maintenance sessions. For this reason, it’s important to be aware of the symptoms of a heater in disrepair. Read on as we uncover some of the most common!

The Danger of a Cracked Heat Exchanger

Monday, November 22nd, 2021

burners-in-a-furnaceAre you utilizing a gas-powered heater this fall and winter to keep your home warm? This isn’t surprising, since after all this the most popular heating system found in modern homes. This is especially true in climates like ours that don’t have bitterly cold winters and so don’t need something like radiant heating or boiler heating.

Furnaces are cost-efficient, and a fantastic choice for many homeowners. However, while they’re not inherently harmful, when you use natural gas in your home for any appliance, there is always a small risk of toxic gas leaks and combustion issues. The primary concern in avoiding issues like this is taking care of your furnace’s heat exchanger.

smiling-technician-working-on-outdoor-ac-unitEven talking about “Autumn” in Florida is almost laughable. Our weather doesn’t typically cool off until January, and even then we’re lucky if we can use our heating systems for a few weeks. That said, it’s obviously super important that our air conditioners stay in the best shape possible! This starts with routine maintenance.

At least once a year, you should have your central air conditioner professionally tuned-up. During a maintenance tune-up, our technicians comprehensively inspect, adjust, and clean your air conditioner inside and out. When we inspect it, we check for signs of wear and tear. From there we can alert you to any small problems so you have the chance to schedule component replacements before this wear and tear leads to a much bigger repair emergency.

Following an annual maintenance schedule can actually help you avoid up to 85% of the repairs your central air conditioner may ever need! Additionally, maintenance helps the system work as efficiently as possible, for as long as possible. But whether you’re alerted during maintenance to repair needs or you suspect there might be an issue with your central AC system, what are the other 15 % of repairs you’ll likely need at some point?
