The Advantages of Using a Hybrid Water Heater

Monday, April 11th, 2016 at 11:00 am

Your water heater is one of the hardest working appliances in your home, though you may not realize it. Think about it right now, though. How often do you use hot water in your home? Almost certainly multiple times a day, which puts your water heater under much more strain on an annual basis than either your heating or air conditioning system. Most water heaters don’t even turn off. Instead, they operate all day and night to maintain a standing supply of hot water.

So, if you want to lower your home’s operating costs, the water heater should be one of the first places you look. Let’s take a look at how a hybrid water heater can cut down on your operating costs, while still providing you with all the hot water you need.

What is a Hybrid Water Heater?

A hybrid water heater is an electric water heater that uses thermal energy from the surrounding air to become more energy efficient. An evaporator coil is located at the top of the water heater tank, similar to those found in air conditioners or heat pumps.

When in operation, the coil evaporates refrigerant to absorb thermal energy from the air in the room. It then sends the refrigerant gas into the tank, to the condenser coil. The condenser coil then condenses the refrigerant back into liquid to vent the thermal energy into the water in the tank. This makes the hybrid water heater incredibly energy efficient, cutting down your operating costs while still providing the same level of output. If you’re looking for a way to make your home more energy efficient, this might be the perfect solution for you.
