The Key: Motorized Dampers

There are three key components in a zone control system: the motorized dampers, the main control panel and each zone’s thermostat. Once the zones have been established by you and your technician, motorized dampers are installed into the supply ducts; these dampers will control the air flow for each zone. The dampers are connected to a main control panel to which each zone’s thermostat is also connected. The main control panel will open and close the dampers as needed to maintain the temperature set in each zone.

How Does Zone Control Help My Cooling?

Here are a few ways in which zone control helps maximize your cooling:

  • Reduces energy usage – with a zone control system, you use only the cooling you need because you can fully turn off cooling to a zone that isn’t occupied or used. This reduces the amount of energy your system uses.
  • Reduces wear – with less cooling comes less operation, so the level of wear and tear on your AC is reduced.
  • Customizes cooling – each zone operates independently, allowing you to control your cooling per zone as opposed to setting a single temperature for your whole house.
