So, it can be more than a little alarming if your air conditioning system seems to be losing output right when the days are starting to warm up. If your air conditioner isn’t cooling your home as much as it should, there are a couple possible reasons why. Let’s take a look at those reasons now.

Refrigerant Leaks

Your air conditioner is able to cool your home by using refrigerant. The evaporator coil inside the home evaporates refrigerant to absorb thermal energy from the air moving across it. Then, the refrigerant gas is sent to the condenser coil outside and condensed to vent the heat out of the home. Without refrigerant, your air conditioner won’t be able to cool your home properly. Leaks can occasionally develop in the air conditioner’s refrigerant line, slowly draining the system of the fluid it needs to operate. If your air conditioner output is dropping, and there is fluid leaking from it, that could well be why. You should call for repairs if you ever notice fluid leaking from your air conditioner.

Compressor Issues

The compressor is a pump in your air conditioning system, responsible for pushing refrigerant gas from the evaporator coil to the condenser coil. The compressor can occasionally become damaged if liquid refrigerant makes it into the system, which can happen due to low refrigerant levels or a frozen coil. If the compressor is damaged, it will not be able to circulate refrigerant gas properly and the system’s output will drop. If your air conditioner is making strange noises, or turning on and off suddenly, this might be why.

If you need air conditioning repairs, call Climate Masters.
