Which Heating System is Right for Me?

Monday, February 5th, 2018 at 11:00 am

thermometerHeating may not be as important as air conditioning in Florida, but we still have at least a few days a year where it’s a good thing to have. If you’re in the market for a new heating system for your home, there are a number of options available to you. Have a look at a few of them below, and the different advantages that each could offer you if you were to install it. Keep in mind, though, that you should always consult with a professional before making a final decision about installing a new system.

Furnace

Furnaces remain at the top of the pile in terms of heating system popularity, even though plenty of more modern heating types have come on the scene. This is because they’re affordable, versatile, and all-around great options for heating a home on a budget. If you’re in need of a new heating system, there’s a pretty good chance that there’s a furnace type out there that will meet your needs.

Heat Pump

A heat pump looks more like an air conditioner than a heater, and for good reason. Instead of burning fuel to generate heat, the system evaporates refrigerant to move heat from one place to the other. This is the same way that an air conditioner operates. The difference between the two system types is that the heat pump is able to change the direction that refrigerant flows through it. This allows the system to either heat or cool the home depending on the needs of the homeowner. If you want to save money and space on climate control by using just one system year-round, a heat pump might be the perfect option for you.

Hybrid Heating System

One drawback of using heat pump is that it tends to lose efficiency during extremely cold days. Air source heat pumps heat homes by siphoning thermal energy from the air outside the home. The colder it is, the less thermal energy is available for the system to use. A hybrid heating system corrects this by combining a heat pump with a furnace.

For all cooling and most heating needs, the heat pump portion of the system will be taking care of the climate control. If and when the temperature drops to the point where the heat pump is no longer able to efficiently heat the home, the furnace portion of the system will automatically activate and take over. This ensures that you’re always getting the most out of your system in terms of energy efficiency. Just make sure that you always have a professional handle your installation for you, regardless of the heating system you end up going with. Proper professional installation services will ensure that your system gets the best possible start to life.
